Happy 4th of July!

Brutus2013-Mohawk

I can hardly believe that it’s July, let alone the 4th of July!  Where does the time go?  Today we plan to take it easy, stick around town and watch some fireworks later in the evening.  What are your plans?  Whatever you do, please be safe.  Oh, I just love this sweet photo of Brutus James rocking his rad summer Mohawk!  What a cool guy, huh?  He loves it and wears it well.  Happy 4th!

Snow Day

Ron-Pups1

The other day we took a break and had a snow day with the pups.  The park closest to our house is being remodeled so we decided to check it out.  Even when covered in snow you can tell that the park is going to be amazing.  They’re building a paddle boat lodge, a huge playground, an amphitheatre, water fountains, and an outdoor carousel!  I can’t wait for Spring.  Until then, we will enjoy the snow.

The pups just love to run and jump in the snow, especially when their Kong Disk is in the picture.  Tucker will bark at you if you don’t throw it and Frankie likes to let him fetch it and then she’ll steal it from him and bring it back.  That was a fun day.  Well, back to work for me.  I hope your Monday is going well.

{life lately} what’s new

(This image was taken with my iPhone prior to his first little surgery)

Sheesh!  It’s been a rough week for my poor little Brutus James.  On Wednesday I had to take him into the vet for a minor surgery on his chin and mouth!  This was very unexpected and I’m not exactly sure what happened, but Tuesday evening he had a bleeding chin and went into hiding.  He currently has a drain in his chin that will be removed today and closed up with a few stitches.  Then on Thursday I noticed that his eye was protruding out to the point where he couldn’t blink!  I rushed him to emergency where they preformed another 2.5 hr. surgery and stitched his eye closed!  By doing that, they hope that this will save his eye and sight.  They think the infection from his chin was realated.  Poor little guy.  He’s been through so much in just a few days.  He’s currently on 5 different medications that have to be given at particular times in a particular order… so confusing.  And I really do have the best hubby.  He’s been so helpful and comforting to Brutus and I both.  I’m convinced that Brutus will pull through, because he’s a strong boy.  He has his follow-up appointment this afternoon, so I’ll keep you posted on his status.

In other unrelated news, I’m pretty excited for the mailman to come within the next couple of days because I ordered a new lighting kit and a few other small items!  With the Colorado winter rolling in, I needed a way to take high-quality photos inside.  I currently have a home-made lighting kit, but the lights that I have get so hot that they actually melt my clay-mations if I don’t stop for breaks.  Eek!  It’s a pretty large kit, so I’m still thinking on where I’ll be setting it all up and if it will stay in that location permanently or not.  Decisions.  I also ordered a few goodies for our Halloween party and a little something for myself.  I met some huge goals recently and treated myself to a special gift.

Poor Meghan was sick last week, so we cancelled our Sunday Craft Day and rescheduled it for tomorrow.  It actually worked out since my back was killing me.  We’ll be making our Halloween costumes and posting about them shortly after.  I’m sure we’ll be Instagraming along the way, too!  We’re addicted.  And by that I mean seriously a-d-d-i-c-t-e-d.  Back in July Meghan and I were at a Rockies game with the hubbies and as we were trying to Instagram, it froze up and we couldn’t share anything!  We went through withdraws for a few hours until the glitch was fixed.  Major relief.

Anyhoo, my back is slowly feeling better.  Thank you for all of your kind wishes.  Since I’ve been more mobile, I ventured (briefly) to the store to buy some cute fabric for a few new projects.  I hope your Saturday is treating you well.  Be sure to do something fun today!

Oh!  I have a really wonderful {studio sunday} scheduled for tomorrow, so definitely grab a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy!

Labor Day Weekend

We played it pretty easy this last Labor Day weekend by hanging around the house, going out to eat, watching movies and spending a day up in Estes Park, CO with the pups.  It was so much fun and here are a few photos of our lovely holiday.

Tucker’s howling for the stick to be thrown…

He ended up bringing back a tree…

Frankie’s a bit scared of the water.

I hope you had a lovely weekend.  Welcome back to the working world. ♥R

let the fur fly

Oh boy has it been hot here in Colorado!  I can’t imagine what it must be like to have fur.  This year we decided to shave our Heeler-pups, but were told by the groomers that they highly recommend NOT shaving Blue Heelers (and some other breeds, so ask your groomers), because there is a 50% chance that their hair will NEVER grow back!!!  I’ve never heard such crazy talk.  We were also told that if their hair does grow back, it won’t be the same as before and they can get alopecia.  Yikes!  Who knew a shave could be so risky.  I didn’t believe it at first, but the Mr. Googled it and what she said was confirmed.  So, we decided not to shave them and we went the de-shedding route.  They look the same, but when I saw how much hair they pulled from their under-coat, I was more convinced that they’d be cool for the summer.  It’s just so hot for them right now.  Then, with our outrageously cold winters here, I didn’t want to risk them being bald forever, so I think we made the right choice.  In the end, they got a bath, blow dry, ear and eye wash, nail trim, de-shedding brush-out and bows.  They are shiny and new.  How about your pets, do they get any special summer groom?

Picnic In The Park

Today I thought I’d share just a FEW photos that we took yesterday at our little picnic in the park.  Ron and I had a picnic dinner and we finished off with one of the pups’ favorite games — FETCH!!!  They had a blast, as you can see.  They were so tired when they came home and slept hard.

I love how they are carrying the Dogzilla back together.  So sweet!

Look at that little eager tongue that’s sticking out!

Tucker taking a little break…

Frankie is too silly!

Longest tongue in town…

They had so much fun and so did we.  I love days like this.  What is your pups favorite game?

Oh! I took some product photos today for the shop update on Friday, so I’ll share a sneak peek tomorrow! Night! ♥RobbieLee

Impromptu Photoshoot

On Monday I was photographing for another post, when I was distracted by the cuteness overload of these guys!  So, naturally we held an impromptu photoshoot, featuring Frankie Li, Tucker Bean and Brutus James.  I love how they interact with each other, especially when they don’t know that you’re watching. They were just too cute not to share!

Have a great Wednesday! ♥RobbieLee

{color crave} Frankie

I’ve always loved color of any kind, especially color that pops!  I’ve always held onto the color values that I learned as a wee-one, and I’ve always understood color.  But it wasn’t until my college Color Theory course that I really started to pay attention to color and all that it has to offer.  I couln’t imagine a life without color.  It inspires me and keeps me focused.  For my love of color, I have decided to start a {color crave} series on my blog, basically breaking down some of my everyday photos.  My first one is of my pup, Frankie Li.  She is a beauty and she knows it.  She loves to pose for the camera, so it’s never hard to find a great shot.  I chose this photo because her baby-blues really pop and I think that is just the bees knees!  By breaking this photo down, i realized just how many colors she is made of.  I only displayed the main 5 though, because this would be a long post otherwise (smile).

Taming of the Beasts

Good morning.  I’m hoping that 3pm today will change our lives for the better.  As you know, we have two spunky and outrageous Blue Heelers, Frankie and Tucker.  They are the best, indeed.  They are full of love, playfulness, and a giant dash of crazy!  I’ve decided to finally call a trainer because they just don’t listen to me.  I’m seen as part of the pack, rather than the Alpha.  I’m just not stern enough.  The trainer will come and do a demo to see if we all mesh, and if we do, we’ll take it from there.

I just love these crazy guys so much, but they are out of control.  They both pull on the leash and love to torment other dogs on the other side of the fence when we walk by.  We seriously look and sound like a pack of wild banshees coming down the street!  No joke!  They make this yelling sound when another pup in behind the fence.  I’ve tried everything from reading books, tips in magazines, and yes, watched the pros on TV with no luck at all.  This is way I know it is something that I’m doing incorrectly.

I’m not sure if you know a ton about Blue Heelers, but they are extremely smart and hyper.  That’s just how they are.  They are bred to heard cattle and other farm animals, without injury.  Their high energy allows them to run fast and maneuver quickly.  We knew this when we adopted them, but I thought I would be a better trainer… but, not so much.  If you Google Blue Heelers, you will find all sorts of amazing videos showing just how smart they are.  One video out there shows a Blue Heeler Praying!!!  Another has a Blue Heeler that knows numbers (he doesn’t speak them) and when his human counts, he does different things.  So, I know mine are capable of listening to me, but they are too stinkin’ smart and they know I let them get away with it.

Anyhoo, I will let you know how it goes, and wish me luck!
